Letter to the Board from Catherine Scobby, Parent
10/12/2025
Dear Bandon School Board Members,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the actions of Superintendent Schmerer and the current environment within our school district, particularly regarding the treatment of our dedicated teachers.
It has become increasingly apparent that there is a lack of support for our teaching staff, which is disheartening for both parents and students alike. The decision to forcibly reassign high school teachers to the middle school has not only disrupted their professional lives but also undermined the stability that our children rely on. Such actions create an atmosphere where teachers feel mistreated and undervalued.
Moreover, the ongoing lack of support for fair compensation has led to a troubling trend: experienced educators are leaving our district for better opportunities where they feel respected and supported. This directly impacts my family, as my daughter is facing the reality of losing three of her Harbor Lights Middle School teachers this year alone.
The expertise, dedication, and passion of our teachers are invaluable assets to our children and community. It is crucial that the district not only recognizes their contributions but actively supports them through fair compensation and a positive working environment. Without immediate changes, we risk losing more talented educators, leaving our students without the guidance and support they deserve.
I urge the school district to address these pressing issues and prioritize the well-being of our teachers. By doing so, we can foster an environment where educators feel valued and students can thrive.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I hope to see positive changes that will benefit our teachers, students, and the entire community.
Sincerely,
Catherine Scobby
